Arthur was born on October 12th, 1909 in Charleville, Queensland.  Arthur's father was Christopher Johann Neilson and his mother was Minnie Sommerfield.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Andrew Neilson and ? ?; his maternal grandparents were Robert Sommerfield and Isabella Dodd. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Henry, Molly and Annie.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 69 on April 15th, 1979 in Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Queensland.

‌Arthur and Josephine were married on November 11th, 1933 in Methodist Church, Toowong, Queensland.  They had two sons and three daughters, named Raymond, Kenneth, Lenette, Delphine and Denise.  Delphine and Denise are twins.
