István was born on January 23rd, 1861 in Bekölce and his christening took place there on January 23rd, 1861 conducted by the priest.1   His godfather was Pós János and his godmother was Kormos Erzsébet.  István's father was István (Stephanus) Pozsik and his mother was Terézia Czifra.  His paternal grandparents were Pozsik and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Mátyás Mathias Czifra and Julianna Kormos. He had three brothers and two sisters, named János, Lajos, Ágoston, Katalin and Veronika.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
