William I, known as The Lion, was born in 1143.  The Lion's father was Henry of Scotland (3rd Earl of Northum.) and his mother was Ada de Warenne.  His paternal grandparents were David I (King of Scots) and Mathilda of Huntingdon; his maternal grandparents were William de Warenne (2nd Earl of Surrey) and Elizabeth de Vermandois. He had two brothers and a sister, named Malcolm IV, David and Margaret.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 71 in 1214.
