Duncan I, known as The Deseased, was born in 1001.  The Deseased's father was Crinan of “The Thane” Dunkeld and his mother was Bethóc.  His maternal grandfather was Malcom II (King of Scots). He had a brother named Maldred.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 39 in 1040.
