David I was born in 1084.  David I's father was Malcolm III “Great Chief” (King of Scots) and his mother was Margaret of Wessex.  His paternal grandparents were Duncan I “The Deseased” (King of Scots) and Suthen; his maternal grandparents were Edward “The Exile” and Agatha. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Edgar, Alexander I, Matilda (Edith) and Mary.  He was the youngest of the five children. He had a half-brother named Duncan II.  He died at the age of 69 in 1153.
