Matilda (Edith) was born in 1079. Matilda (Edith)'s father was Malcolm III “Great Chief” (King of Scots) and her mother was Margaret of Wessex.  Her paternal grandparents were Duncan I “The Deseased” (King of Scots) and Suthen; her maternal grandparents were Edward “The Exile” and Agatha. She had three brothers and a sister, named Edgar, Alexander I, David I and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the five children. She had a half-brother named Duncan II.  She died at the age of 39 in 1118.
