Charles I was born on February 24th, 1500.  Charles I's father was Philip I “The Handsome” (King of Castile) and his mother was Joanna “The Mad” (Queen of Aragon).  His paternal grandparents were Maximilian I (Holy Roman Emperor) and Mary (Duchess of Burgundy); his maternal grandparents were Ferdinand II (King of Aragon) and Isabella I (Queen of Castille). He had a brother and two sisters, named Ferdinand I, Eleanor and Catherine.  He was the second oldest of the four known children.  He died at the age of 58 on September 21st, 1558.
