Margaret's father was Richard Rowland Williams and her mother was Mary Constance Hopley. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Hopley and Mary Easthope. She had three brothers and a sister, named Emanuel, Thomas, John and Mary. She was the fourth oldest of the five known children.
