Lydia's father was Moses Mather and her mother was Lydia Lancashire.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Sarah (Sally) Stewart. She had a brother and two sisters, named Richard, Sarah and Margaret.  She was the youngest of the four children.  She died at the age of 63 in April 1928 in Oldham.²
