John Mather

John was born in 1809 in Withnell and his baptism took place on July 30th, 1809 in Brindle.¹²

John's father was Ralph Mather and his mother was Ann Clarkson. His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Esther Mason; his maternal grandparents were Peter Clarkson and Ann Constantine. He had two brothers and six sisters, named James, Alexander, Jane, Mary, Sarah, Betty, Peggy and Ann. He was the seventh oldest of the nine known children.

General Notes
- 19 Jan 1839, John Mather married Margaret Walsh at Blackburn. However this is another couple as ALL the birth records after 1837 reveal Margaret's maiden name was also Mather. They actually married at Leyland 8 Apr 1833 after Martha had been born: "John Mather and Margaret Mather, both of Withnell"
  
  In 1841, John was a printer at School Lane, Brindle, Leyland with wife Margaret (both 30), and Martha (10), Esther (7), Mary (4) and Ann (1). His mother Ann and siblings were nwighbours.
  
  In 1851 John and Margaret (42 & 41) were at School Lane, Withnell with Martha (21), Esther (missing), Mary (14), Ann (11), Ralph (8), and Alice (5).
