Jane was born on April 18th, 1797 in Harwood and her baptism took place on May 7th, 1797 at St. Bartholomew (Great Harwood).1  Jane's father was Henry Howarth and her mother was Ann Dugdal. She had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Jonathan, Ann, Alice, Mary and Betty.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
