Betty was born on September 25th, 1801 in Harwood and her baptism took place on October 25th, 1801 at St. Bartholomew (Great Harwood).1  Betty's father was Henry Howarth and her mother was Ann Dugdal. She had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Jonathan, Ann, Alice, Jane and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.
