Henry's father was Dionysius (Dennis) Howarth and his mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Crook.  His paternal grandparents were John Howarth and Silence  Duckworth. He had two brothers and five sisters, named John, James, Sally, Silence, Betty, Jane and Mary.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
