Gerrit Jan Wessel was born in 1824 in Zwolle. Gerrit Jan Wessel's father was Johannes Martinus Volk(e)ring and his mother was Lubertha Barbara We(e)link. His paternal grandparents were Jan Wessel(s) Volkering and Euphemia Maria Jöring (Joring(s)); his maternal grandparents were Jacob Klaas Welink and Maria Elisabeth van den Broeke. He had a brother and ten sisters, named Jacobus, Jacoba Maria, Johanna Geziena, Johanna Geziena, Wilhelmina, Geertruida, Gerridina, Gerridiena, Johanna Gesina, Gerridina and Martha. He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 75 in 1899 in Zwolle.-
