Cornelis was born in 1783 in Dordrecht and his baptism took place there on June 8th, 1783.1  Cornelis' father was Schalk Corneliszn van der Schalie and his mother was Neeltje Woutersdr de Beer.  His paternal grandparents were Cornelis Corneliszn van der Schalie/Schally and Aeltje of Alida Cornelis van der Borcht of Burg of Borg; his maternal grandparents were Wouter Pietersz de Beer and Maria Anthonisd Swaans. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Schalk, Wouter, Wouter, Gerrit, Gerret, Maria and Neeltje.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 76 on September 19th, 1859.
