Simon was born on March 10th, 1753 in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess, NY, USA.  Simon's father was Simeon Freer and his mother was Catrina Van Benschoten.  He had five brothers and five sisters, named Elias, Petrus, Jonathan, Casparus, Johannes, Sara, Elizabeth, Catherine, Jacomyntje and Geertje.  He is the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
