Geertje was born in 1760 in Rhinebeck, Dutchess, NY, USA.  Geertje's father was Simeon Freer and her mother was Catrina Van Benschoten.  She had six brothers and four sisters, named Elias, Petrus, Simon, Jonathan, Casparus, Johannes, Sara, Elizabeth, Catherine and Jacomyntje.  She is the eighth oldest of the eleven children.
