Moses was born on August 10th, 1802 in Rhinebeck, Dutchess, NY, USA.  Moses' father was Elias Freer and his mother was Mary Van Kleeck.  His paternal grandparents were Simeon Freer and Catrina Van Benschoten; his maternal grandmother was Jannetje DeGraff.  He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Lawrence, John, Jannetje, Jane, Catherine, Sarah, Maria, Elizabeth and Alida.  He is the youngest of the ten children.
