Lawrence was born on August 4th, 1787 in Rhinebeck, Dutchess, NY, USA. Lawrence's father was Elias Freer and his mother was Mary Van Kleeck.  His paternal grandparents were Simeon Freer and Catrina Van Benschoten; his maternal grandmother was Jannetje DeGraff.  He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Moses, John, Alida, Elizabeth, Maria, Sarah, Catherine, Jane and Jannetje.  He was the sixth oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 42 on February 19th, 1830 in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess, NY, USA.
