John was born in 1822 in Grimsby, Lincoln, England and his christening took place on April 19th, 1822 in Saint James Church, Grimsby, Lincoln, England. John's father was John Rack and his mother was Harriet Johnson.  His paternal grandparents were William Rack and Sarah Mumby. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named William, Joseph, George, Harriet, Rebecca, Sarah, Mary, Betsy, Jane, Rachael and Harriet.  He was the second oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 42 on December 11th, 1864 in Grimsby, Lincoln, England.  He was buried on December 13th, 1864 in Saint James Church, Grimsby, Lincoln, England.
