Robert was born on March 14th, 1847 in Sabhathu, Himachal Pradesh, India and his baptism took place there on April 4th, 1847.  Robert's father was Mr Robert Mulvey and his mother was Mrs Caroline Campbell.  His maternal grandparents were Mr Robert Campbell and Mrs Anne NK. He had a sister named Ann.  He was the older of the two children. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Thomas, Hugh, Alice, Tamar, Emily and Mary.
