Thomas was born on July 13th, 1857 in Mhow, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India and his baptism took place there on September 27th, 1857.  Thomas' father was Mr Thomas Campion and his mother was Mrs Caroline Campbell.  His maternal grandparents were Mr Robert Campbell and Mrs Anne NK. He had four sisters named Alice, Tamar, Emily and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the five children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Hugh, Robert and Ann.
