Tamar was born on October 31st, 1853 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India and her baptism took place there on April 30th, 1854.  Tamar's father was Mr Thomas Campion and her mother was Mrs Caroline Campbell.  Her maternal grandparents were Mr Robert Campbell and Mrs Anne NK. She had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas, Alice, Emily and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the five children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Hugh, Robert and Ann.
