Irene was born on March 7th, 1902 in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.  Irene's father was Mr Edward John Coventry Master and her mother was Mrs Lydia Florence Blanche Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were Mr Robert Augustus Master and Mrs Marianne Kennedy. She had two brothers and a sister, named Eric, Douglas and Dorothy.  She was the youngest of the four children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Gerard, Kennedy and Ellen.
