Joseph was born in 1674 in Steeple Claydon, Buckinghamshire, England.  Joseph's father was Mr Joseph Churchill and his mother was Mrs Anna Chaloner.  His paternal grandparents were Mr Henry Churchill and Mrs Phillis N/K. He had a brother and three sisters, named John, Ann, Phillis and Cornelia.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 82 in 1756 in Northamptonshire, England.
