Ann was born in 1673 in Steeple Claydon, Buckinghamshire, England.  Ann's father was Mr Joseph Churchill and her mother was Mrs Anna Chaloner.  Her paternal grandparents were Mr Henry Churchill and Mrs Phillis N/K. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, John, Phillis and Cornelia.  She was the oldest of the five children.
