Dorothy was born on December 11th, 1896.  Dorothy's father was Christian Hansen-Ankersen and her mother was Caroline Jessen.  Her maternal grandparents were Johannus Jessen and Katrina C. Krownberg. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Christian Jr., John, Charles, William, James, George, Maria (Mary), Anna, Sophie and Elizabeth.  She was the seventh oldest of the eleven children.
