Charles was born on March 2nd, 1893.  Charles' father was Christian Hansen-Ankersen and his mother was Caroline Jessen.  His maternal grandparents were Johannus Jessen and Katrina C. Krownberg. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Christian Jr., John, William, James, George, Maria (Mary), Anna, Sophie, Dorothy and Elizabeth.  He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.
