Valdemar was born in 1858.  Valdemar's father was Christian_IX and his mother was Louise of_Hesse-Cassel.  His paternal grandparents were Frederick William of_Schleswig- and Louise Caroline of_Hesse-Cassel; his maternal grandparents were William of_Hesse-Cassel and Louise Charlotte of_Denmark.  He was the youngest of six children.  He had two brothers and three sisters, named Frederick_VIII, William George_I of_the_Hellenes, Alexandra of_Denmark "Alix", Dagmar "Marie" of_Denmark and Thyra of_Denmark.  He died at the age of 81 in 1939.
