Isilda's father was João Firmino Freitas Morna and her mother was Maria de Jesus.  Her paternal grandparents were Julio de  Freitas Morna and Maria Carolina Gomes; her maternal grandparents were  Guilherme Gomes and  Maria de Jesus.  She is the third of four children.  She had two brothers and a sister, named Julio, Gonçalo and Maria.
