John, known as Jack, was born about 1916 in Upleatham, UK. Jack's father was Thomas Sharpe and his mother was Emily Eliza Fowle (Sharpe). His paternal grandparents were Joseph Sharpe and Ellen Thwaites (Sharpe); his maternal grandparents were Mr Stephen Fowle and Charlotte Knight (Fowle). He had two brothers and three sisters, named Arthur, Bob, Elsie, Mary and Doris. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died as a war casualty, Killed in action, on June 18th, 1944 in Nr Tilly-Sur-Seulles, France. He was buried in Tilly-Sur-Seulles War Cemetery, Calvados, France.¹¹
