Elsie was born on April 20th, 1909 in Upleatham, UK. Elsie's father was Thomas Sharpe and her mother was Emily Eliza Fowle (Sharpe). Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Sharpe and Ellen Thwaites (Sharpe); her maternal grandparents were Mr Stephen Fowle and Charlotte Knight (Fowle). She had three brothers and two sisters, named Arthur, Jack, Bob, Mary and Doris. She was the second oldest of the six children.-
