Joseph was born in 1889 in South Dakota.1   Joseph's father was Henry Wieseler and his mother was Renata Schmidt.  His paternal grandparents are Franz Wieseler and Wilhelmina Forka.  He had three brothers and two sisters, named Frank, John, Ben, Anna and Martha.  He was the second oldest of the six children.

Joseph and Susan were married. They had three sons and two daughters, named Dominic, Richard, Robert, Dorothy and Katherine.
