Amelia Ellen was born in November 1866 in Michigan, USA. Amelia Ellen's father was William Tembey and her mother was Amelia Nicholls. Her paternal grandparents were John Tembey and Jane Toy; her maternal grandparents are William Nicholls and Elizabeth Kneebone. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named William, John, Christopher, Alfred, George, Samuel, Bert, Elizabeth Jane, Bessie, Alma Carrie and Mabel.
