William was born on January 11th, 1840.  William's father was James Phillip Caust or Cause and his mother was Ann Clogg.  His paternal grandparents are <Unknown> and Jane Cause; his maternal grandfather was Richard Clogg and his maternal grandmother is Mary. He had three brothers and five sisters, named John, James, James, Mary Ann, Sara, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Amelia.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 78 on May 23rd, 1918.
