John was born in 1837.  John's father was James Phillip Caust or Cause and his mother was Ann Clogg.  His paternal grandparents are <Unknown> and Jane Cause; his maternal grandfather was Richard Clogg and his maternal grandmother is Mary. He had three brothers and five sisters, named William, James, James, Mary Ann, Sara, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Amelia.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died of an unknown cause at the age of 2 in 1839.
