Mary Ann was born in 1829 in Bingley, W Yorkshire and her baptism took place there on April 26th, 1829.1   Mary Ann's father was James Ickeringill and her mother was Isabella Longbottom.  Her paternal grandparents were George Ickeringill and Hannah Wilkinson; her maternal grandparents were Stephen Longbottom and Grace Atkinson. She had five brothers and a sister, named George, John, Jacob, James, Henry and Nancy.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
