James was born in 1825 in Bingley, W Yorkshire and his baptism took place there on April 17th, 1825.  James' father was James Ickeringill and his mother was Isabella Longbottom.  His paternal grandparents were George Ickeringill and Hannah Wilkinson; his maternal grandparents were Stephen Longbottom and Grace Atkinson. He had four brothers and two sisters, named George, John, Jacob, Henry, Nancy and Mary Ann.  He was the fifth oldest of the seven children.  He died in Haworth, W. Yorkshire.
