Nancy was born in 1759 and her baptism took place on February 25th, 1759 in St Nicholas Church, Baldwin Street, Bristol, UK.  Nancy's father was Thomas Hawker and her mother was Catherine Hill. She had five brothers and five sisters, named John, Thomas, Thomas, Susannah, John, Sarah, Mary, Mary, Betsey and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the eleven children.
