Margaret was born in 1888.  Margaret's father was Archibald Campbell and her mother was Barbara Mowat.  Her paternal grandparents were John Campbell and Margaret MacKenzie; her maternal grandparents were Andrew Mowat and Elizabeth Reid.  She had eight brothers and four sisters, named George, Andrew, John, Archibald, Dan, Robert, Marcus, Alexander, Elizabeth, Johanna, Hughina and Barbara.  She was the third oldest of the thirteen children.
