James was born on October 8th, 1851 in Illinois. James' father was Uriah Churchill Webb and his mother was Mary Frances Fairleigh (Webb). His paternal grandparents were John Webb and Elizabeth A. Mayfield (Webb); his maternal grandparents were John Pryor Fairleigh and Amelia Ramsey (Fairleigh). He had six brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Uriah, George, Uriah, Alfranzo, Louisa, Malinda and Sarah. He was the fifth youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 33 on May 15th, 1885. He was buried at the Rentfro Cemetery.
