Jan was born in December 1787 in Enkhuizen and his baptism took place there on December 25th, 1787.1 2   His godmother was Neeltje Jansdr. Jan's father was Samuel Andrieszn Mons and his mother was Elisabeth Jansdr N.N..  His paternal grandparents were Andries Andrieszn Mons and Steijntje Samuelsdr Schaftenaar; his maternal grandparents were Jan Eijberszn N.N. and Antje Barendsdr N.N.. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Andries Samuelszn, Thijs Samuelszn, Berent, Stijntje Samuels and Annetjen Samuelsdr.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 72 on March 7th, 1860 in Harderwijk.1
