Chiel was born in 1624 in Sprang-Capelle and his baptism took place on January 28th, 1624 in Capelle (Noord Brabant).1   His godfather was Gerrit Janszn and his godmother was Mecchel. Chiel's father was Gerrit Peterszn van der Hoeven and his mother was Thuentien Gerrits Antonisdr Smit.  His paternal grandparents were Peter Gerit Andrieszn van der Hoeven and Anneke Adriaensdr de Jonge. He had a brother and three sisters, named Peter, Ariaenken, Anneken and Maycken Geerits Petersdr.  He was the youngest of the five children.
