Julian was born in 1931 in London.¹ Julian's father was Hyman (Harry) Posner and his mother was Zellia (Zella) Gootnick. His paternal grandparents were Hillol (Henry) Posner and Matilda (Tilly) Nathan. He has two sisters named Helen and Barbara . He is the oldest of the three children.

General Notes
- After 1948, Julian was a singer and performed in Europe and America using the stage name Bob Vincent - the man with a thousand voices. His act included singing impressions of artists such as Elvis Presley, Perry Como and Johnny Ray and these were often well received in the music press. He toured on a Bruce Forsyth Show in the late 50's and appeared in numerous cabaret nightspots of the era. He once appeared as a celebrity on an ITV (then known as ATV) programme called the Music Shop hosted by Teddy Johnson along with another singing act known as the Avon Sisters. His act found particular sucess in Germany and he had a hit over there with a song called Frankie, which he sung in German
