Mary was born in 1841.  Mary's father was Mr George Withers and her mother was Mrs Eliza Ellis.  Her paternal grandparents were Mr James Withers and <Unknown>; her maternal grandparents were Mr William Ellis and <Unknown>. She had three brothers and three sisters, named James, Charles, George, Emily, Sarah and Eliza.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
