Silvanus was born in 1777 in Wednesbury, Staffordshire and his baptism took place on June 8th, 1777 in Saint Bartholomew, Wednesbury, Stafford.1 2   Silvanus' father was Joseph Turvey and his mother was Sarah Francis. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, Solomon, William, John, Joseph, Sarah, Milly, Maria, Martha and Nancy.  He was the second youngest of the eleven children.
