Lydia was born in 1827 in Thaxted, Essex and her christening took place on April 1st, 1827 in Thaxted Parish Church, Essex.1 2  Lydia's father was Samuel Parkin and her mother was Ann Johnson.  Her maternal grandparents were John Johnson and Mary Livermore. She had four sisters named Eliza, Harriet, Emma and Mary.
