Eliza was born in 1816 in Thaxted, Essex and her christening took place on January 7th, 1816 in Thaxted Parish Church, Essex.1 2  Eliza's father was Samuel Parkin and her mother was Ann Johnson.  Her maternal grandparents were John Johnson and Mary Livermore. She had four sisters named Harriet, Emma, Lydia and Mary.
