Emma was born in 1823 in Thaxted, Essex and her christening took place on September 7th, 1823 in Thaxted Parish Church, Essex.1 2  Emma's father was Samuel Parkin and her mother was Ann Johnson.  Her maternal grandparents were John Johnson and Mary Livermore. She had four sisters named Eliza, Harriet, Lydia and Mary.  She died at the age of 85 in March 1908 in West Ham, Essex.3
