Harriet was born in 1819 in Thaxted, Essex and her christening took place on September 5th, 1819 in Thaxted Parish Church, Essex.1 2  Harriet's father was Samuel Parkin and her mother was Ann Johnson.  Her maternal grandparents were John Johnson and Mary Livermore. She had four sisters named Eliza, Emma, Lydia and Mary.
